‘What does a Micro Wedding even look like?! These were our first thoughts..’

Katy + Tom were the first of our 2020 couples who opted to have a micro wedding and let’s be real for a second, we were a little nervous. Nervous for many reasons, firstly this was our first ‘wedding’ since Covid-19 came and messed up our entire year so we were obviously very conscious that we were adhering to all rules involving social distancing and being super super vigilant whilst obviously doing everything that we normally do and not missing out on capturing moments & emotions. The nerves were also there because once you get out of the routine of shooting weddings every week you’re just so used to the hustle and bustle of everything. Pre wedding nerves are just as prevalent for photographers as it is the couple!

We also had absolutely no idea how it was going to feel on the day, the thought of a socially distant wedding just sounded so formal and stiff but we really needn’t have worried at all!

Once we arrived at the venue and spoke to the lovely staff at The Garden Station and saw the socially distant measures they had in place we immediately felt reassured and as soon as Katy, Tom and their guests joined it honestly felt like a ‘normal’ wedding feels like. There were was smiling and laughing.. What the hell even is that? We’ve been locked in the house for so long with such minimal interaction with other humans, this is crazy.. good crazy! haha.

Tom, his dad and best man all arrived on their bikes and Katy was there waiting to meet them. They walked down to the ceremony space together and their closest family members were all there to watch the ceremony. We were allowed a little bit of time for some mingling and a small drinks reception which was so lovely. It was also a really nice to be on our toes creatively as we had to work out ways of taking group shots whilst maintaining social distancing & keeping everyone in their ‘social bubbles’- is anyone else absolutely sick of the phrase social bubbles and bubbling up? bloody hell we really are!

Anyway, this was Katy + Tom’s micro wedding and they’re still planning on having a epic party for wedding day part 2 in 2021, we were so glad to be able to help accomodate them in the rescheduling process. Big love to you guys for adapting, getting hitched and looking bloody epic whilst doing so!

We’re currently working on a love letter to micro weddings  and how smaller isn’t sacrificing, so this will be linked below (once Simon gets it done!)
