‘Not only our first ever Lake District Elopement, but our first ever elopement.. and we were BUZZING!!’

When Emily + Alex first got in touch to confirm they wanted to book with us to document their Elopement in the Lake District featuring a ceremony by the Resivoir we were literally bouncing off the walls with excitement! Shooting an elopement has always been something that we’ve always wanted to do, but previously whenever we’ve received an elopement enquiry it’s either been for a date that we’re already shooting a wedding or a date that we’re away on holiday on. NOT THIS TIME!

Emily is actually a full time elopement photographer herself, so it was a real honour to be asked to document her elopement! Emily + Alex had rented a super cute cottage where they were doing all of the morning prep stuff together, which is something that we love so much about elopements (and loads of our wedding couples) we absolutely LOVE it when people say nuts to ‘the rules’ and do things their own way. Morning prep together is so romantic because Alex still didn’t want to see Emily’s dress, so we mad him cover his eyes while we took it out into the courtyard for photos! During the prep time Emily + Alex had facetimed both families, Emily’s are all in Italy + Alex’s in Romania.

After Hair + Make up was all finished we got in the car and headed off to Haweswater Resivoir where we met up with the celebrant and started our little trek to find the perfect spot for the ceremony. Once we found a super cute spot for these two cuties to get hitched it was time to get dressed! Simon spotted a really cool hedge which gave us the idea, ‘why don’t you both get married either side of this hedge’ it made for some great prep photos as they were both in the shot whilst they weren’t able to see each other. Once they were both ready we did a quick first look before they walked hand-in-hand to their ceremony.

One of our most favourite parts of any ceremony / blessing is the vowes, now we’re talking personal here and these guys absolutely NAILED IT! Following their epic ceremony we drank rum, faced epic rain showers, played with smoke bombs & captured portraits of a truly beautiful couple so in love!

This was such an amazing experience and getting to photograph our first ever elopement with these two beauts was the perfect introduction into a whole new avenue of love stories. We were honestly so buzzing on our trek back home and they’ve really inspired us into pushing ourselves to book more elopements. Given the current climate (The Rona) we can really see there being quite an active market for elopements which is why we’ve been writing up a ‘guide to elopement‘ which goes over things to consider when planning an epic elopement and listing the multiple benefits of eloping 🙂

If you have any questions about planning an elopement hit us up!

LOVE,
SJ + Simon xo
